Camping Gears and Tips

Boost Your Camping Know How With These Pointers

Camping has long been known as a cherished pastime for the young and old alike. It does not matter whether you plan to just kick back by a warm fire and relax, hike or any type of other recreation, you should always be prepared with some basic camping knowledge. When you reach your campsite, the first thing you should do is to start collecting wood for your fire.

You won't feel like it later on, and if you wait until dark you will have a harder time finding the kind of wood you need to keep a fire going. Do it right away. A good multi-purpose tool needs to be part of your camping gear. There are two kinds to bring. First is the saw/hammer/axe 3-in-1 tool to use for firewood and other chores. The other is the standard multi-purpose tool with a variety of tools on it like a can opener, tweezers, scissors, and a knife. If you are going back-country camping, you should probably carry a snake bite kit in your gear.

The best snake bite kits are the ones that use suction. Some kits have scalpels and blood flow constrictors in them. Scalpels can actually cut the poison into the blood stream faster, and constrictors can be deadly if not used properly. If you are going camping with a tent you have never used before, put it up in your backyard before you leave. When you get to your campsite, it might be dark and raining, and you might have to go on feel and memory pitching the thing. So, it helps to have done it at least once before. You should carry a survival knife on your camping trips.

This portable knife can be used for hunting, for protection, and for a signal if you need help. You need to carry one that is durable, so try to invest in a quality knife from an outdoor goods or camping store. Does your camping canteen have a weird smell? Put a few teaspoons of baking soda in your musty canteen with some water. Put the lid on and swish it around. Let it sit for about an hour and then pour the mixture out. Rinse the canteen with fresh water and it will be as good as new. If you know that it's going to rain before going on your camping trip, it's best to cancel and reschedule it for when the weather clears up. Rain can cause flooding and other safety hazards.

If you find out about wet conditions ahead of time, it's best to wait so that you can enjoy your trip in safer conditions. Some of the best food options to bring camping with you are things that come in cans. While this may not be the tastiest, it is great for two reasons. It is very convenient and easy to prepare, but more importantly, wildlife will be unable to smell the food inside of the cans. Check your tires before you go camping. You want to ensure that nothing stands in the way of you having a fun camping experience. It's always a good thing to ensure that you don't get a flat tire when you go off road towards your camping adventure and have fun times.

As you can see, it is important to keep some basic tips and advice in mind for your camping trip. Camping is fun and simple, but it is always important to be prepared. The information shared here should prepare you quite well to have a great trip that will be memorable long after the trip has ended!
